2 hours is more than sufficient for transfer at EWR. You can always cancel the seats, presumably 4 seats would open up, and you can repurchase the flights at the current cost.
If there's an issue the day of travel, resolve it at BNA, either with an agent or via phone call.
There is horrible congestion these days. Add any kind of weather and it just gridlocks. Way too many AC. It can take an hour+ from when you land to when you get off the AC. Then if thing go wrong you’re stuck with a long wait to speak to the most helpful friendly agents in the world. Quite frankly I would avoid EWR if possible.
