Initially planning to book a stay with them in November.
Pros (not many):
- Good breakfast
- Champagne sabring
- Generally good F&B staff (but you expect this from a St. Regis so shouldn’t really be counted as a pro)
Cons (to name a few):
- Bad location. On the palm Island but not by the beach. Far from the city with nothing close by except for a a connection to a bland mall (not a luxury mall but one with H&M, ZARA etc).
- Their plans to affiliate with a beach club (I believe there was a plan at some point) is canned. It is now just a hotel in a high-rise building.
- Staff not well trained. Eg. They lost my bags at check-in. I had to go look for it myself in the end cos they ‘gave up’ and said ‘we cannot find it’
- no butler even when we asked for him/her. a regular employee showed up asking what we needed.
- Too many service lapses in general. When they say ‘we will get back to you on this’ it really means ‘ please check back yourself’
- Small rooms. Very few suites (rare upgrades).
- No desk in regular rooms (did I mention small rooms?) in case you need to work
- Housekeeping was a disaster. Hair everywhere. Amenities not replenished. In room dining tray not removed??? They basically made the bed and touched nothing else. Even the robe that was draping on the chair was left untouched.
- no turndown even when we asked.
- One of the bellhops ‘told off’ my wife for getting out of the car late. This was at like 1AM as we returned from late dinner + drinks. I got upset and intervened at which point he stared at me with a smirk as if he found me funny. I walked off and raised it to management on the spot (1AM+) – they said they’d speak with the staff and check CCTVs. Next morning I got an apology (?) saying that it was all just a miscommunication.
- Service recovery was mediocre at best. We got a free BMW ride to our next hotel for ‘all the inconveniences caused’
I can go on, but you get the idea.
