We'll be flying US - IST - South Africa this November, and actually stopping and spending a few days in IST on the return trip. It's likely to be quite a bit colder in IST than SA, so we had this crazy idea of leaving a bag with warmer clothes at the left luggage in IST during transit on the outbound, and then picking it up when we arrive on the return. This raises a couple questions:
  • Can we leave a bag for ~10 days? If it's still around 53 lira per day, as mentioned above, that wouldn't be an unreasonable charge even for that long.
  • Is there even a way to access the left luggage office if we're just transiting? The previous post says that it's past customs, which seems to rule that out, but wanted to check if there were other options.
Thanks!
When in transit only at IST you can't do it. You store the bag at your final destination.

Even with absolutely no first hand experience, I can assure you that the current price will be nothing like 53 TRL/day (which is nothing today due to exchange rate going down hill for quite a while). Most likely it will be priced in USD or EUR today... (and of course much higher than 53 TRL/ 3 USD per day due to Turkish inflation)
