Stayed here a couple of times this year. Most recently got Bonvoyed - SNA cleared four days out, on arrival put in a regular room without any apology, I had to return to the front desk to query what room they had given me. (the app gave me a clue). I did get 10k points as compensation, and the hotel was fully sold out, but clearly they had sold my upgraded room to someone else, naughty. Now I have to chase Marriott to get the SNA back.
The Barlow wing rooms are nowhere near worth the £500 they charge when occupancy is high. The room we were in had a haphazard line in the carpet between the corridor part and the bedroom area like the floor had collapsed, the bathroom had a non-functional extractor fan, not a single hook to hang anything up (I am guessing it was an accessible room, but it didn't have the other accoutrements such as grab bars etc), and the mirror didn't have a heated anti-fog pad. The $100 a night Fairfield Inn I stayed in last month managed that.
Breakfast in the (beautiful) Booking Office was a shambles, nothing on the buffet was labelled, milk carafes empty, my order for an expresso disappeared, staff milling around doing nothing.
Those of a certain age might want to check out the Spice Girls staircase on the left as you come in, no need to stay for that though.
