Strange. When I travelled CE a couple of weeks ago the service was very similar to how it was pre-pandemic, bar no hot towels. We got a menu, then drinks + pretzels, food service with drinks. To be fair, some people had to then ask for a third drink or top-up and I had to ask for a coffee, but we received 3 drinks inc. a pre-meal service drink.
On the way back, even better. Drinks service as soon as the plane was in the air, meal with drinks, topup whilst eating, then an offer of a fourth whilst they were collecting the plates - I had to turn that down as I didn't want a fourth!
Edit: just read someone said only zones 3-5 get a pre-meal drinks service. I was flying to zone 4 destination. I will add though, the flight back was only 1.5 hours and they still squeezed all the above in!
