Sometimes I wonder if people overthink things, I'm just asking for personal experiences that indicate that you should offload your carry-ons onto someone else.
It could take 1 minute, or it could take longer. Why risk it?
Of course this kind of defeats the purpose of the heightened screening, I think random unannounced more detailed checks (which certainly happen even on domestic US flights) are incrementally more effective.
