Re the coke, those 200ml bottles can fair cost you a fortune on a (non-drinking) night out as you go through so many compared to a (330ml) can of soft drink.
Re the G&T - I would hate it if someone poured a mixer into my spirit as they could make it too diluted, so better to add it yourself.... and if you are grippy you can make a bottle last a couple of drinks given you pay extra for the tonic.
Great TR from you so far and looks like you enjoyed your impromptu trip to Ireland.
I can’t complain. I had FOMO when they were planning it and then I ended up there anyway. But believe me, you get no sympathy when you tell your friends, “we are stuck in Ireland” lol
good points about the tonic

I just sent the trip insurance a query on how to file a claim, so we shall see what they pay. I’m hoping for her 2x airline change fees plus fare differences, the extra hotel costs and maybe the over the counter supplements I bought to treat her symptoms (I’ll understand if they don’t). Each item was a good €13 so I think (off the top of my head) that I probably spent €150- €200 on over the counter meds. Oh and I’d like to submit the cost for her letter of recovery (€35).

Sunday, June 5 we left Kilkenny and took the train to the end of the line at Waterford. Everyone told me it was a dump and we might have been able to stop off sooner, but I had no feedback on other places and this seemed good enough. We really only wanted a place for the night. We were able to get a 2 double bed room at The Waterford Marina Hotel.
https://www.waterfordmarinahotel.com It was €199 for one night. We were happy to have it and when we were checking in, the receptionist was answering the phone and telling the callers that they were booked for the night. At first, in the area around the hotel, it seemed more urban but also more real. However, the next day on my morning walk, there were tons of trash and dog poo on the sidewalks, so unfortunately, I do think it’s a bit dumpy. The people were so nice and friendly though.

There are two beds, but I cut off one sorry. It was a bit Spartan but perfectly comfortable for one night

Man, this stew was AMAZING. We are still talking about it.
Some kind of maritime related device. There were all kinds of them.
Another installation. I’m not sure what it is. I know it’s two hands but not sure what it means…
This is a small river on the left that leads to the larger River Suir (main focus)
We don’t really see swans where I live, so we enjoyed watching them.

We talked about doing something in Waterford (lots of Viking artifacts) but we decided we didn’t want to rush, so we had a lie in until it was time to get back to the train station.
When I called to rebook our new dates to fly out, I also changed our airport to Shannon, so it was on to Limerick where we would stay for 3 nights until we left Ireland.
Next, we backtrack in the train to Kildare to get to the right rail to get to Limerick.
