Better contact LH after you have flown the outbound (when travel has commenced LH can deal with your ticket and you don't need to contact Exp) and ask for a separate PNR to be created for the person that needs to be rebooked. I don't think LH will touch the Expedia issued tickets like this, even after the outbound was flown. They might rebook on the day of the outbound due to irops, but that's it. The second problem is, that rebooking the return after taking the outbound will be VERY expensive as well. Booking class W will be not available for sure, so they will upsell into M or Y.
Best option is to call Expedia and ask for the reservation to be split by them and rebook the one pax right away. Which obviously comes with a change fee and perhaps fare difference. Or maybe, the ticket cannot be changed at all...
