We got the full waitlist experience and before then put on the volunteer list for the overbooked flight which never materialized, but first class worked quite nicely, especially with sitting together. One more, #3, got upgraded, so two seats somehow opened up as only one seat was not taken when I last checked. There were nine on the upgrade list.
