All true, but the OP (questions quoted above for what reference) was asking about getting added to the upgrade list on AA flights, getting MCE seats on those AA flights, and whether he should use his AAdvantage numbers. The answers to these questions are:
1. Maybe (definitely at the gate, maybe before the gate since AA recently changed things to let AS elites get added to the list here; the change may also have opened the door for AA elites; a recent data point would be useful here)
2. Yes, through the AA app or website
3. Yes.
