I'm interested in seeing what happens after AS has a chance to evaluate how this impacts their bottom line. On the one hand, there's the loss of day pass revenue, but on the other, it might encourage people to purchase a membership or first-class ticket. DL hasn't sold day passes for at least a couple of years, so obviously it's working for them.
Important to note with DL though is that they have a suite of credit cards with AMEX that either offer paid day passes (Platinum DL AMEX) or free access (Reserve DL AMEX). They also offer AMEX Centurion/Platinum cardholders complimentary access with a same day ticket on DL. Seems like AS should fast track some kind of premium credit card to compete with the legacies.
All of that said, I would expect "The Club" and Centurion lounges in SEA to see a surge in usage as a result of this change. For my part, I am a lot more likely to buy a ticket on DL as an AMEX platinum card holder now to get access to a skyclub.
