I’ve had a decent amount of luck being Diamond and doing upgrade waitlists. Basically there’s no expiration on the upgrade (sometimes I don’t get upgraded until day of at the airport), and I can get waitlists to clear segment by segment. Had a lot of extra carried over upgrade points in the last few years where across 10 or so flights where I applied for upgrade I have always been upgraded.
