Not a native and even live in the 'burbs but have been here about 12 years. I have to agree with Analise. I think if you want a compromise try late may or early June. It may be hot but it isnt real likely. It is more likely to be pleasantly warm and sunny. Same with September. If you want a non-winter experience the fringes of summer will give it to you with lower risk of beastly humid, foul air that you can get in August.
