Well, I dont think Singapore uses zoning system for the public transport, c.f. London. If any, its called 'fare stages'. And the presence of EZ-Link eliminates all the guesswork in determining how much you pay. You do not need to find out what the fare stages are. These are used when paying cash and "in the old days" where magnetic cards were used.
Now, tap the ez-link when boarding and tap again when alighting. You'll have to trust the system to deduct the "correct" fare for the journey.
Yeah, probably it's just the chewing-gum withdrawal syndrome...
