I have a friend flying LAX-NRT on United and then NRT-BKK on Japan Airlines. Arrival and departure in Narita are on same day with 3.5 hour layover. I am trying to figure out if they will have any problems connecting.

I wanted to confirm following:
  • Transiting from T1 to T2 airside sounds possible airside by bus without going through immigration? Sounds like yes from above?
  • Will there be a problem with check bags? Sounds like this would require going through immigration unless there is way to check bags through United to JAL. So sounds like they need to just carry-on?
  • Will they be able to check-in to JAL flight airside or online? This question I'm totally not sure on as it seems like most check-in counters are landside.
