Data point: a little over a month ago I was supposed to fly JFK-SEA-FAI-ANC-PDX-JFK on a MR, however due to a mechanical delay I misconnected in SEA. With the trip in vain (they could not get me to FAI or ANC that day), they kept me in SEA for around 8 hours (unable to put me on the 2pm nonstop back to JFK) and sent me home via SAN. I requested either a full refund or ORC; ORC was denied and I was originally only refunded the unflown portion, and once I threatened to dispute the charge, I was given the remainder of the refund.
