Installer looked at the little pictogram (of what I assume is) a tablet and interpreted that as a person sitting in a seat with an arrow pointing forward? Clearly, therefore, that should be the edge closest to the seat

The most important part is it's always a chain leading up to failures -- if any one link in the chain is removed that failure either wouldn't have occurred or the result of the failure would have been minimal. And safety critical steps have multiple checks (inspections) and balances built in; a misaligned tray table isn't really safety critical so, disconcerting but not threatening

(Incidentally am I the only one whos wife gets upset at me for watching those? I mean it can be a bit awkward in flight but in the comfort of home...)
