If OP has precheck (and if precheck at T5 is open) I’d go for it — that’s my usual routine when flying B6 out of JFK, and it’s pretty quick (especially if you’re walking between terminals which takes out some of the uncertainty of waiting for the AirTrain). Although if OP only has priority pass wingtips isn’t worth it.
