Having flown both in SQ J and NH old J (Staggered seats), I would always choose NH. The SQ seats are OK for sleeping but are terrible for lounging. If you want to recline and put your feet up, it's extremely uncomfortable because you have to contort your legs into a very sharp angle to get your feet onto the ottoman which is off to the side. The angle is especially bad with the new 77W seats, less bad with the old seats on the A380.
With the NH (old) seat, the ottoman is directly in front of you, so very comfortable for putting your feet up.
I've seen many online comments from others who dislike the SQ J seat for the same reason.
