It's worth pointing out that AA can get you there with less travel time arriving at about the same time (through PHX) or leaving and arriving earlier (through AUS). The AUS routing is cheap on some days. One ticket, one carrier, you can credit the whole thing to AS, and if you have high enough AS status you will get some status benefits on both flights.

If you insist on these specific flights I would see if AA can sell it on a single ticket (might require calling in, and a good agent). Or maybe a good TA. At least then your connection is protected. But I'm not sure if this is possible. I would not do this short of a connection on 2 tickets without having a backup plan for the 2nd flight.
