T5 is not a great place to sit around. If you don't want to leave the airport proper, I highly recommend checking out the TWA Hotel across the street from T5. The lobby area is a very nice place to sit around and you can explore the old terminal and the Connie.

Depending on how quickly you clear CBP and if you have PreCheck, you could go into the city for an hour or two (or someplace of your choosing closer; there is a casino not terribly far from the Howard Beach AirTrain station, for example). Other options might include a restaurant you could Uber to and from.

I am certain that you could get lounge access for a price.
There are no lounges in T5, so it is sadly not an option.
