Er??? At SYD you need to make a ~3km trip land side to the the domestic terminals. Recently some people, on single tickets, with a 2hr connection have been missing the onward domestic flight. QF have a dedicated T1 check in and land side bus international to domestic (seamless lite). But VA (DL ~ UA partner) have not reinstated their bus, so need to the public T-bus. As MEL a 3 minute walk between international and domestic terminals. Entering into AU you must process immigration, customs & bio security with all your carry on & checked bags (~short check).

At SYD they are separate airports. AKL (Air NZ) is better when flying USA to AU east coast & at times PER. Airside AKL transit then to many AU airports (not just SYD)
