Itinerary change with standby/wait-list

I have a GIG-AMS-HAM segment coming up on a weekend in a couple of weeks. Of course, I am quite concerned about the AMS-HAM sector just disappearing altogether with the mess Schiphol seems to be and am looking into other options. There is a GIG-CDG flight on AMS, which I could potentially be moved to but I really wish to avoid the horror of ending up on a 2-3-2 old-style AF layout.

There are two AF GRU-CDG flights a day. It's a different airport, but I do have some flexibility in being able to get to GRU instead of GIG. So I can potentially change my plans to return from GRU. I have looked into changing flights so that I fly from GRU, but changes on my dates are an eye-watering €3500 - not something I want to spend.

Does anyone have experience with AFKL's policy for wait-list/standby? If I turn up at the airport in GRU, would they be willing to wait-list me and put me on the flight if space becomes available? I will only have hand luggage so I am quite flexible, and worst case, I will take a flight from GRU to GIG to catch my currently scheduled flight.

Any thoughts or ideas the brilliant collective might have?
