This is also beneficial in that you should get charged less miles than if you were to upgrade at the airport.
Only when you get a combined ‘through upgrade’ do you get charged fewer miles than if you upgrade the sectors separately. WHERE you upgrade has nothing to do with it (although to be fair you can’t get combined upgrades at the airport).
The remark about logging in on YOUR Skywards account and then pulling up the reservation of the other party is correct and very helpful!
