789 old -> new config seat assignments
I'm flying to Europe next week. Since I booked the flight a few months ago, the seat map has been an old config 789 with the 'old' business class seats and no premium plus. Still is today. I have plus points pending for a business upgrade, but I do not expect it to clear. J4. No upgrade waitlist to prem plus since they're not selling it.
I've been watching the flight status for the flights the past few days and it looks like this flight often ends up operating with a new config 789. I'd love to end up in prem plus. How does this work with if they end up assigning a new config 789 for my flight? I can see a number of possibilities:
A. Free-for-all. Some semi-random seat reassignment happens and I should keep an eye out to change my seat at check-in or before
B. Status-based. 1Ks in economy get auto-assigned the better seats, then Plat, Gold, etc.
C. Current seats stick. People who happen to be in 20-22 A/C, D/E/F, J/L before the switch luck out and end up with prem plus seats
D. Prem plus waitlist. They create a new cabin and people waitlist (or pay) to move up
E. ??
Would love advice on maximizing my chances to end up in prem plus. Thanks!
