Be careful trying to book online after midnight. I tried this around 2am driving through LAX about 4 years ago and it was a mess. The clock would keep setting to the next day; it was impossible or nearly impossible to book "yesterday" and ultimately the reservation I made was for the next day (I'm not sure if I ended up making a mistake or it was messed up on the back end). I drove to the hotel and the agent told me that he couldn't check me in right then because he was closing the books.

I waited 15-20 minutes and then he told me that it was a reservation for the next day. Because he had closed the books there was no way to adjust the reservation for the current night. The only option that he gave me was paying $60 early check-in (on top of the rental rate already paid). I might have been able to fix it over the phone but I wasn't going to mess around. I am not 100% sure that it was Marriott but I think so.

I ended up driving to Joshua Tree national monument and tent camping and it was a great night and trip. It's not for everyone, though.
