I agree that it seems short-sighted but I get the impression that covid has made all travel companies just look at short-term cash flow rather than long-term satisfaction.

On the tickets we had booked, I don’t really believe that adding one LH flight would have cost A3 more than refunding us in full. I think you have more chance of getting them to agree to a short domestic connection on another airline than rebooking the whole thing to LH. Unless it would only be an LH feeder flight connecting to A3 metal? I think keeping the XXX-ATH leg on A3 is the most important factor for success.
