Would it be possible to book everyone together to assign preferred seats, then split the PNR so me+1 can get C+? If i do that will the preferred seats and checked bag stick to the 7 split off from me?
You can do that. The bag part, while it will work 99% of the time, could be an issue if you get an agent at the airport that wants to go by the rules (all travelers have to be on the same PNR to get the free bags). I have only run into an issue once or twice. For the seats, you are fine as long as there is no schedule change or equipment change that caused the seats to drop out or get changed. You will likely be out of luck then.
