Yeah, which do not work for something like CPH-ORD//EWR-ARN as the individual one ways would be insanely expensive. But I find it strange that the phone agent said, they can't ticket stopovers. That is crazy. I did so, many maaaaany times without problems... either a very incompetent or just lazy phone agent.... or they enhanced their booking system in the last few years?
I also thought it was weird so I called back and got an agent who initially said stopovers were not allowed but after we talked a bit he said he would try to price it and he gave me an astronomical cost and said it would be better to buy it as two separate tickets.
So I checked Orbitz and it gave me a cost half of what the ticket agent gave me but still more than buying separate tickets (in this case I am able to do the transatlantic piece as part of the RT and add on an intra-Europe flight— I did consider only using one way tickets but was shocked at the price) so I guess that’s what I’ll do.
