There's really no substitute for reviewing the specific terms of the coverage, which can be found here:

Depending on the reason for the delay, the airline might be on the hook for lodging and meal expenses, so I would check with the airline first. And I would try very hard to get some documentary proof showing the late arrival time of the first flight, and the reason therefor; as well as evidence that there was no later flight (or available flight) tonight from your intermediate point to your final destination.
