Have not used the travel credit yet, though I would expect if I booked something then canceled, I would just expect it to be clawed back. I wouldn't use it to book something I had no intention of using.
From reports in other threads, Amex will claw back, and Chase doesn't so much. I did once have to refund an item that was covered by the travel credit on Chase, and it didn't get clawed back. It wasn't intentionally done, just worked out that way. Though I also think it was also a pretty small amount.
I did successful AMEX PLAT incidental credit 4 times and Chase CSR twice on airline ticket "flip".
DID Chase CSR twice on airline "flip" on airline ticket reimbursement.
Since I continue award travel via points I don't charge much on airline just fees and budget hotels in Europe and weren't always covered. SO I "flip" got the credit as fast as I could.
I don't fidn any problem doing this if the charge is an honest travel related.
