There will most definitely be a “reset” in the number of status holders once both travel pent-up demand calms down a bit and whenever the status extensions start running out.

Also as others have commented, it goes in peaks and troughs and actually the problems are compounded by reduced staffing as well as on many occasions people still ardently queuing up for the F wing when the “normal” priority desks or even the economy desks are running smoothly and maybe even quicker!

Either way, regardless of any reduction in status holders, I don’t think those early morning peaks or school holiday rush will ever be any different. Finally I’d be careful what you wish for and not give BA ideas. It might promote a US airline (AA comes to mind) style lounge access policy where it’s only permitted if you’re travelling long-haul (just like how the Arrivals lounge is) and that’ll be a massive Pandora’s box opened!!
