I was told that a directive had come down with effect from 19 May and the £17.50 level was no longer. And it was 0.50p only, plus a lot more miles when you x 2.

Things like this are quite simply not defendable. I hope the person who created this directive has a short career at BA, one day they realise taking deliberate actions to screw frequent customers is actually not what they are supposed to be doing.
Same thing when connecting from an RFS redemption to a long-haul flight. They add the increased Avios amount for the short-haul. Arguably even more indefensible since in this case they are already charging you full taxes and fees for the whole journey negating the supposed benefit of RFS anyway.
