Some SQ experiences around masking over the past 14 months. A total of 4 trips, with 8 segments (4LH/4SH).
Experiences during SH: Mask wearing allover the place, even in 2022, though during meals, no excitement when mask were off. Starting Oct 2021, the overall atmosphere got a bit more relaxed.
Long haul experiences:
April 2021 with 2 people in J, mask enforcement was extreme, at the panic level, I would say. Forget your mask, while going to the toilet and get scolded. "During" meals, have your mask dangling on your ear and get reminded to wear, when not unless actually eating/drinking. Understandable, since this was the time that vaccination spread was still very limited.
Aug 2021 in a 1/3 filled J, masks enforced, and the crew definitely felt better, when you would put on your mask in between meal courses.
Oct 2021 in a 50% filled J, masks enforced, though relaxed around meal times, etc.
March 2022 in a 2/3 filled J, masks mandatory announcements, though little enforcement. Crew still wearing masks, though the whole pretty relaxed around meal serving, etc. When walking through the cabin, wo mask, nobody was going to stop you. No Covid testing was required for these flights, vaccinations mandatory.
Masks during sleeping: Until April 2022, it was explicitly announced, that also during sleeping, masks were mandatory. Starting Oct 2021, I did not have the impression, masks were enforced in J, during nighttime.
Since I tend to cocoon in the duvet when sleeping, facing away from the isle, not turning around, etc, nobody would be able to verify, whether I was wearing my mask while sleeping, so, yeah, no mask. Nobody did wake me up, or so.
