Actually, we do not get a stream of complaint posts here about "I was delayed on the road/train/Tube and got to the terminal 10 minutes late and BA just told me that my ticket was worthless and I have to just buy a new one afresh". It sometimes happens, but there are plenty of posts here (probably plenty more) from people who have been reaccommodated on other flights with relatively little fuss.

There's a breed of passenger who thinks that every extra favour the airline does them is the minimum to which they're entitled, but every time the airline falls down is a mortal insult. I don't travel with that attitude. It's a complex business, and lots of things go wrong, so some give and take is necessary. BA and BA people have done me lots of extra favours over the decades, even though I have at highest been a middling Gold, and that's why I'm prepared to cut them some slack sometimes, like during Covid.

Which does remind me that I still have a long-haul award ticket that I need to ask for a refund of.
