Thanks a lot for the info. I guess that also applies if only one person is 1K the same reservation. It would mean that there had to be 2 PN available for upgrade to happen. Is that assumption correct?

No. The M-up is only available to GS/1Ks. As it stands now, you are not currently eligible for an upgrade w/ a non-qualifying companion on same reservation. You have to split the reservation to become eligible for the M-up. Your fellow traveler is not eligible in any case if not 1K or GS. You’d have to request a mileage or Plus Point upgrade for that person, and then he/she would be waiting for PZ.
