Since I never transited T5 before I was wondering why the flight board didn’t say A10a etc instead of just A10. It would have been a shock and ahh moment thinking I was only going to gate A10 and not realizing that there are 5 sub gates.
Because when you are in the main departures area of T5A (the main building), all you can see is "A10".
If that is all you can see, but the display boards say "A10a", it would cause confusion because it would not be clear whether you need to go to gate A10, or whether you need to go somewhere else that's labelled "A10a" (which you cannot see).
If the display boards say "A10" (as they do), you know you need to go to the place marked "A10", which then takes you downstairs. Then you will see what you need to know at that time.
