Absolutely yes. AA loves having their passengers misconnect. Why wouldn't they?
- it costs them more in customer service time/energy dealing with misconnected passenger
- said passenger has a very unpleasant experience, which may (or may not) affect their future AA bookings and social media postings
- it will likely ultimately cost them more operationally to get said passenger from A to X to B
