So, I guess that means I need to wait a few weeks until my return date (May 11ish) is bookable and hope the outbound is still available.Thank you!

I'm still puzzled as to why I can't get QF to work, though.
No, it doesn't work for SQ. Only KE is return pricing. Yes, SQ is expensive. For NA-AU, your only options are QF, CX, SQ, KE & FJ. QF, & FJ are your only options not transiting Asia. We all know the risks of booking CX. You are looking for a needle in haystack"s." Other FF programs have access to QF awards sooner than AS, so it is likely, if there were any, they were scooped up before they would even be available to book in Mileage Plan. Airlines aren't having any issues filling planes right now with revenue passengers. No need to open up award space if they can fill the cabins for cold hard cash.

Demand is high & supply is low. Many others are trying to do what you are doing; booking as soon as the window allows it. Personally, I have never booked 11 months out. I have had most success in the 4 to 3 month window; when others who booked earlier start canceling their awards.

If you find an all J outbound on KE, I would book that now. You can always add the return later and it should reprice accordingly. If it doesn't work out, simply cancel it.
