They do banks bc it enables more short connections which gets more pax (those looking for the shortest option) which lets AA charge more which means more revenue.

Your logic should be the other way around - unbanked hubs let flights come and go as needed. A plane may fly out from their banked hub to an outstation but the next available bank may mean waiting an extra hour or 2 at the outstation for it, depending how the banks are set up
