Unless they somehow already know you speak French, the first thing they usually ask is if you want them to do the spiel in French or English. So English is fine. In an actual emergency, you need to understand the word "évacuation" in French, but maybe there will also be various non-linguistic context clues at that time guiding you toward the correct behavior.
