VS should be good unless you upgrade. When you upgrade on VS you'll always need manual processing. (It comes to DL looking like a mileage ticket)
AM you need to make sure the AM BP reflects your DL SM. If it doesn't show, it won't post, even if agent says otherwise. For elites, it's easy to know if not properly in system. It won't reflect your STE/E+ status, and it will try and charge for third bag if in F and 1st or 2nd (depending on allowance) bag if in Y.
For my last trip, my DL and STE/E+ plus status shows on all boarding passes. Initially the BP did now but after showing an old BP, the agent deleted my SM number and re entered. However, credits did not post automatically. I called DL, they called SkyMiles and advised the ticket needed to be "requed". Immediately, the flights showed up but still in a pending status. good luck all.
