I am not sure when Southwest started to enforce the link between a Young Traveler's reservation with an accompanying adult's. I always book one-way, separated reservations when the family is going somewhere, so it is easy to make changes. Recently I noticed that when booking for a young traveler, the web site not just ask if there is an adult traveling together, but REQUIRES the adult's confirmation number and name. Once the two reservations are linked, none can be changed or re-fared online easily. I could not change the YT reservation - web site said to call. If I tried to change the adult's reservation, web site said there was a linked YT and I had to remove that first. Ended up cancelling the YT reservation, changing the adult's, and then rebooking and linking the YT. There was a risk that the fare or seat disappearing during the process. Anyone has a workaround that's safer than mine?
