The outbound half of a Web Special roundtrip award itinerary was flown today, and I just noticed that the cost of the return portion is much less now than it was when the award was booked. With the outbound portion of the itinerary having been flown, is it still possible to refund the return portion and rebook it at the lower rate?
Thanks!
I can now confirm that this is possible. After AA advised me that this is allowed, I cancelled the return portion, and re-booked it at a lower redemption rate. I spoke with AA last night to request reinstatement of the miles from the first ticket, and refund of the taxes. The miles have already been redeposited into my AAdvantage account; refund of taxes to my credit card will take a little longer.
