No, it was my needs. If it was my wants, then it was their wants too. Difference is, I didn't expect an entire plane load of people to wait for me.

Agreed, The pax in the back were selfish for expecting me to wait for them.
I had a very similar situation to OP a few weeks ago, DEN-DFW for a connecting flight to Rome where the DEN-DFW flight was delayed about 30 minutes. I was also in Row 1, and I sat down until the passengers who needed to make their tight connections offloaded. It may have added 5 minutes to my day, but it probably saved them the 20+ hours of headaches if they had missed their connection.
ORD is not DFW.
