I don't worry about the bidding. I generally just ask the agent shortly after they get there if they need DBs and say I am willing to bump just tell me what number
In addition, I tell them I’m ready willing and able and I am extremely flexible. Then I start looking for alternative flights with first class of availability and then ask for that :-)
