You're missing the point. I agree that when you fly in, T8-T5 you do not benefit from lounge access. But when you fly out from city x to JFK, and JetBlue offers a better schedule than AA, you are likely to benefit from lounge access. Boston and MCO would be great examples of this, even if at MCO distances can be quite long (as they can be at for example DFW or MIA even on an AA-AY connection). And even if you connect at ORD or LAX, you are in the same terminal as JetBlue.
