- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Mama Medium. apparently upgraded to Mama Large. There are many room types and the difference are not obvious. Mine was in a sort of corner and was large, although most is lost space as not used.
- How are the rooms? It was Ok. Mirrors on the wall on each side of the bed (yes the hotel is for adults, they emphasize on the website porn is for free and easily available, that shower are for twos, etc ...). Bed not that comfortable, although the pillows were good enough. Bathroom small and semi-functional (again, flat bottomed sink, which is really bad design).
- What was good and what was bad?
Good: the location is good if you want to be in this part of Paris. Metro and bus close enough, close to Pere Lachaise, quiet and nice area around.
Bad: No clear loyalty recognition (there was cookies in the room but no clue whether this is for everybody or a ALL Gold welcome gift). Very poor lightning at breakfast, I had to let my eyes adapt to the low level to see the food. Staff very poor, the check-in was very weird. My email and phone number were wrong, but not in an obvious sort of way, it could clearly have been someone else with my name (email was my name and after the arobase a famous large company that is not my employer, phone number a phone in the US). I pointed that out and this was handled very poorly, borderline aggressively.
- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? NA
- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? Nothing, but I didn’t ask.
- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? Not sure. Value was cheap compared to every other hotels in Paris. But would I return considering the quirkiness, attitude and general atmosphere of the hotel ?
Well I knew this was going to bite in some way.
I received today an e-mail for online check-in at the Mama Shelter Paris West for a 2 nights booking starting Friday. Except I have no such bookings for this date at this hotel. I called them and it turns out that there are indeed a booking under my name, with my phone, email and credit card attached. Except it is not me. Someone with the same name has the booking and the software replaced his info with mine automatically. I am sure that this is the guy's info I saw when I checked in at the Mama Shelter Paris East a month ago.
The guy on the phone confirmed my info were removed from that profile but I do not trust them. So I am ready to put a chargeback if somehow I get debited on my card by the hotel. I asked for a written email with what he told me as ammunition in case it is not solved (and also to forward to the CNIL because I can not believe they store the credit card number just like that). But I am sure despite his promises he will not write an email. (I already got the "it is not the hotel storing the CC, it is the computer" lame excuse).
He said something interesting: Mama Shelter booking system is separate and is not Accor's booking system.
