Yes…file dispute with cc company for sure since it was definitely fraudulent use of GC. Be as detailed as possible and send any correspondence with US Bank. I think you will get your $1k back. Also file complaint online with your state attorney general office pronto. US Bank tried to stiff me with two $100 cards that wouldn’t activate…they kept insisting cards were activated. Got a check for $200 within two weeks of AG office complaint filing.
I am surprised you got pushback on your USB card purchases since whenever there is some fraud especially when they see attempted charge activity on the card before it was activated by the merchant. I have had that twice already and USB issued me new VGCs which took about 5-10 business days. I just prefer not to let the banks know about VGC buy activity unless I have to. I guess for $200 its ok but if I was doing like $1.5K then I would try to resolve this with USB first before trying to go through the credit card company.
