Who's to say that PN wasn't available? It may very well have been very briefly (in fact come to think of it to have the link there would have had to have been PN) and the poster was only looking for the letters PZ. So once PN was available the link appeared, the poster clicked and cleared as the upgrade list hadn't started running at the gate yet. The poster needed PN as an instant up, they were eligible to clear into the higher fare class so they win. Doesn't matter if there were 1Ks on instruments, of course they need the PZ. Any 1K can be on the list either as a CPU or instrument supported with both racking and stacking higher or lower. Same thing applies here: #6 as a CPU, but cuts to the head of the line as an instant up.
So I might take a step back and agree with the idea of a glitch, insofar as the way the system runs (or doesn't run) at times during the inside-24 period, especially close in to departure time. However we can't say they weren't eligible for what they got with the fare they had.
